Ventus- named from the Latin origin word for ‘wind’, this lightweight insulated active hoodie vents incredibly well all while maintaining its static insulation properties.

  • Ultralight Weight & Packability: At just 7 oz, the Ventus is half the weight of other comparable insulated hoodies. This mid layer can do more for you while weighing less & packing down to the size of a grapefruit.
  • Body-Mapped Breathability & Reactive Warmth: This is enabled through perforated armpit vents, targeted insulation placement, and actively breathable 3DeFX insulation. 3DeFX stretches with you as you move, allowing more heat to pass through when you need to vent. When not in motion, the insulation maximizes loft for more warmth. Stay the perfect temperature regardless of your activity levels!
  • Motion Oriented Design: Not only does the insulation stretch with you, but the durable 2-Way Stretch Nylon will also give you freedom of motion for a wide range of activities.
  • Simple With Style: The sleek design, subtle branding, and athletic fit all contribute to a versatile hoodie that looks good in any application.

Product Care

Your Ventus Active Hoodie is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.

Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:

Before Washing

  • Never wash your jacket in a washing machine that has an agitator.
  • If you cannot follow either of these prior instructions you should hand wash your jacket using the detergent and drying process described below.

The Wash & Dry Process

  1. Use a mild detergent like Dreft (for babies) or Nikwax (for technical gear).
  2. Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
  3. Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse.
  4. Hang dry until the jacket is completely dry.
  5. Then loft and redistribute your insulation in the dryer by running it for 10 minutes on low or no heat with 3 dryer balls.

3DeFX Technology

Four types of spiral-shaped fibers are intertwined to give 3DeFX insulation more loft and stretchability than traditional microfiber synthetic insulations. This insulation stretches with you as you move, allowing heat to escape & keeping you at the perfect temperature!

When active, your body motion stretches the tiny coils of fiber in the insulation.  As the coils are stretched (much like trampoline springs,) the 3DeFX insulation is less lofty & more heat is allowed to pass through.

As soon as you stop moving, those tiny insulation fibers coil back up and create maximum loft in the insulation.

Basically what this means is that you get a warmer insulation that weighs less & helps regulate temperature.

Venting

First, really like the weight of the Ventus. Second it seems to break the wind better than the Pat R1. Third, the pit vents seem nice and the inside breast pocket is great.
What I don't like. I think the hood could be cut so it covers another inch or two of the side of my face. ( I know, weight savings...) I find this jacket does not vent as well as I thought is would after listening to all the advertising from OV. As a trail runner I thought this could the be holy grail of jackets for winter running, say in the 20-35 degree range. Contrary to one trail runner review on the OV splash page I find the Ventus to not vent enough for my needs. If I remember correctly the review stated they were running in 35-45 degree temps. Here is my trail running experience.

- First Run: 6 miles. 12:50 pace. Temperature 28. Wind Speed 9 mph. Real feel 18. Cloudy.
Wearing: one base layer - a light weight merino wool short sleeve shirt and arm sleeves. Ventus on top. Beanie.
Outcome: The shirt was soaked the Ventus was soaked. I was soaked inside and chilly. Had to change do a clothing car change before meeting friends for coffee.

- Second Run: 11:5 miles. 10:50 pace. Temperature 20. Wind Speed 7 mph. Real feel 14. Cloudy.
Wearing: one base layer - a light weight merino wool short sleeve shirt, no arm sleeves. Ventus on top. Beanie.
Outcome: moderately moist, feeling a bit cool, not warm. The wool shirt was soaked and Ventus damp. Had to change before driving home.

Overall I was let down in the "holy grail" department. But, thinking OV is really building gear for backpacking, not sustaining a hard effort for 11 miles. I think what I really need is a slightly lighter Ventus as I like the wind breaking, water repellency, comfort and loft of the Ventus.

Amazing Buy

I recently used my hoodie on a trek for the first time. Wore it actively during the hike in temps in the upper 30s and felt amazing. Had it on while static at camp / during set up and stayed warm all evening until temps dropped to the lower 30s before having to put on my NovaPro Jacket. This hoodie far exceeded my warmth thoughts and I want to own multiple now. Such a great buy

Stay warm, stay active, and stay dry.

I've only hiked around 20 miles so far in this hoodie, but so far I'm really liking it. The temperature hasnt dropped lower than 38° so far this fall. I'm looking forward to hiking in this when it gets a bit colder.
