Shadowlight Ultralight Backpack

The ShadowLight™ Ultralight backpack brings a new meaning to "ultralight backpacking". No longer do you have to sacrifice everything to get below a 2 lb pack weight!

Shadowlight- named for its ultralight weight and how well it rides on your back. Due to its geometry and weight, it feels like an extension of your body.

  • Ultralight and Ultra Comfortable: Coming in at under 2 lbs (including a durable 24 in. frame & wide hip belt,) it comfortably carries up to 35+ lbs. The shoulder straps, hip belt, & removable back panel were all crafted to fit anatomically, making the Shadowlight Backpack feel more like an extension of your body.
  • Ultralight With Extra Organization and Access: The Shadowlight Backpack is equipped with side pockets, large hip belt pockets, stretch-mesh pockets, & a full length main panel entry zipper to keep you organized on the trail while keeping your pack weight under 2 lbs. The adjustable roll-top gives you additional access & customizable space for packing.
  • High Strength Ultralight Fabric: We used our own special Spectra / Robic Ripstop fabric, which gives you the benefits of both a high tenacity nylon & UHMWPE fibers! Enjoy the strength and durability of a much heavier fabric, but now in an ultralight package.

Tahoe Rim Trail trial run

Overall good pack. Used center zip system a lot. Storage was Adequate. Water was easy to reach. Load lifters on the 45 didn’t work. I was confused how to adjust those up and down on the shoulder strap so it would correctly lift the load. Still comfortable but might need bigger version. Pack started to squeak after 10 miles. Wasn’t that obnoxious or anything that I’ve read, but it was squeaking a tad. It worked well with small bear canister but need 65 litter version for large bear canister. I put the canister in the pack. Top load strap is only adequate for a tent or sleeping bag, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised!

I am 63 and my son and his friend convinced me I needed to upgrade from my beloved 25 year old Kelty to an ultralight pack. I was skeptical that something that light would be as comfortable, but this Shadowlight is! I got the 60L version and I’m glad I did. I think the 45 would be too small for anything more than an overnight. Get this pack. You won’t be disappointed.

Recently Upgraded from Venerable Older Pack

I recently upgraded to the Shadowlight 60L from my venerable LLBean 75L that I've had for over 25 years. Its still hiking with someone else, but it was showing its age and with the recent deal, the time was right to make the switch. I broke the new pack in on the Cranberry 50 over 6 days and nights. The pack was comfortable with a 35lb loadout. I actually stuffed my Tushar rain jacket into the bottom back pouch for added lumbar cushion. That worked out great. I did not notice the squeaking that so many others have talked about, but maybe that was because I had earbuds in most of the time ;-). The ONLY thing I think needs reworked on this pack is that the velcro strap that olds the aluminum frame in place is not sufficient. Mine kept separating, causing the frame to ride up and the pack to sag onto my rear. I'm going to put a snap on mine to fix it. But overall, there was plenty of room for all my gear. I love the hip pockets and the back mesh pockets to old lots of gear that requires quick access without fishing through the pack. Definitely happy with my decision.
