This bag feels awesome on my back. Love the way it looks and it distributes the weight well.

Kotaul on the Portuguese Camino

I took the Kotaul (after much searching for a carry on bag for international flights) on my first camino. I hiked 200 miles up the Portuguese and Spanish coast to Santiago de Compostela, average about 12.5 miles a day, finished in 16 days. The bag really worked well, with just minor issues. Im not sure if this is really meant for these kinds of trips but the bag held up fantastic for a 3 month trip too Europe, lots of buses and trains. Padding is a bit light and agree with others that shoulder straps and waist belt could be a bit more robust. Since waist belt is velcro attached, there could be a heftier replacement version as an add on. Packed a bit too heavy (named her Wee Heavy for the beer) about 26 lbs. Im 61 and and made it work. Id recommend the pack for sure

The Most Versatile Bag I've Ever Used

This is such a unique, well-designed product. From the Nalgene sized side pockets, to the compressible interior clips, to the optional durables buckles, you can just tell everything was designed intentionally. The harness is also backpacking grade, which is rare for travel packs - it really takes the weight off your shoulders and keeps it close to your body, unlike those awkward backpack duffels. I've used this bag for urban five night trips, a two week trip to Thailand, and I've even used it to go backpacking for two nights. It's been durable so far, showing no signs of wear after 6 months and 10 trips.

I think an easy way to improve it even further would be to create optional mesh side pocket and front pocket mesh webbing, that could clip into the loops intended for the duraflex buckles. Or even a mesh webbing for the bottom, to hold sandals, enabling you to carry wet or dirty items on the outside of the pack. I get why OV didn't want to use mesh (urban look compatible) but this would really take the versatility of the pack to the next level.

Not OV's Best

I have loads of OV products and really like most of what they do. I was looking for an alternative to a roller bag plus laptop pack and thought this looked like the best option, from a company I already knew and trusted. My first surprise came when there was no sizing at checkout. Then when the pack showed up, I did a test run with it to get it adjusted and noticed how tight the hipbelt was and how my torso was too long for the load lifters to do much. I should have just returned it at that point. I just got back from carrying this around Ireland. It was fine for light loads, but on travel days where I had all my stuff, it was really uncomfortable. Why no sizing on this pack OV??

It does have some nice storage features so if it happens to fit you right it my be a good option. For reference, I am 6' 1" and wear a size 36 waist in pants.
