When we started working with NuYarn to develop this neck gaiter, we wanted to make sure it was not just another face covering. Unique designs on both the Full Neck Gaiter and Mini Neck Gaiter give you a product that can do more and do a better job at it!
Technical products all start with the materials you put in them and the Neck Gaiters have the best of the best. Ultralight merino wool keeps things light, while still keep you warm. This merino wool gives you maximum comfort against skin for any adventure!
The Full Neck Gaiter has a unique sloped cut on one end that allows you to tuck it underneath a hat while still covering your nose. This cut reduces any instances where a traditional neck gaiter might slide down by accident.
The Mini Neck Gaiter's unique design utilizes a natural stretch fit to help block dust or cold. Additionally, a double layer of merino wool (MINI GAITER ONLY) is built into the gaiter in front of your nose and mouth for increased protection.
2 oz (Size Mini)
Sloped cut on Full Neck Gaiter enables you to tuck the gaiter in a hat or have additional coverage around your neck.
Use as a neck gaiter, headband, scarf, bandana, face mask, buff, and ear covering!
The Mini Neck Gaiter utilizes an natural stretch fit design to block more dust or cold, and is also double layered in front of your nose and mouth for increased protection!
Merino wool has built-in bacteria resistant properties, reducing odor and helping you enjoy being around yourself on the trail!

Your Wool layer is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.
Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:
- Never wash your wool with anything with velcro or similar hook & loop characteristics.
- Never wash your wool in a washing machine that has an agitator.
- If your wool layer has a zipper, please zip it up completely to prevent it from snagging during the washing process.
- If you cannot follow any of these prior instructions you should hand wash your product using the detergent and drying process described below.
The Wash & Dry Process
- Use a mild detergent like Dreft (for babies) or Nikwax (for technical gear).
- Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
- Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse (add extra rinse if possible).
- Hang dry until the product is completely dry.

Outdoor vitals uses Nuyarn® Technology in all of our merino wool fabrics & apparel. Nuyarn is a spinning technology that releases the natural performance characteristics of wool fiber that are otherwise twisted out by traditional wool spinning methods.
Essentially the result is performance products made from natural fibers that can outperform synthetics.
Nuyarn can make wook that performs as closely as possible to the way it does in nature, to rival or exceed the performance of synthetic alternatives.
Types of Spinning
Ring Spun & Traditional Core Spun techniques compress the natural air pockets in the fiber, create loops, & restrict the natural movement of the fibers -essentially creating a rope-like structure that can be itchy next to skin.
Nuyarn® does not twist the fibers. Instead it drafts merino fibers along a high performance filament, resulting in 2 ply yarns with much more volume & aeration. (This 2 ply yarn structure is 35% finer than yarns spun on a conventional ring frame. Combined with the Nuyarn® thermal advantage, this offers the capacity to engineer much lighter, high performance fabrics as a result.)
The Nuyarn® method of twist-free spinning allows us to create products that outperform traditional merino wool & synthetics, and offer a natural enhancer to athletic performance.

I like the softness of it although it is smaller then i thought. Guess i need to order the larger one as well.
The one I ordered never arrived!!!
I bought both versions, and to be honest, while I love the material, I'm not so keen on the design of either. The full sized version, well, I wish that it were a full on tube long enough to really double up. That said, for the price, I think that it's a good value, but as an aficionado, neither of the gaiters from Outdoor Vitals are my go to - instead, I've put them in backup kits.
What would be great, Brigham, if you're reading, is adding a face piece out of this material to the Dragonwool hoodie like the Sitka Lightweight Core Hoodie does. I bet the Altitude Hoodie would be fantastic with a built in balaclava mode, too.
Anyway, all in all, these gaiters are a good value, they're functional, but they don't wow me. Dishonest reviews aren't helpful to anyone, so there you go...
The wool feels soft and warm - as expected from merino and quality is high with good stitching etc. Exceptionally light and folds to almost no volume so very easy to carry however the shape is more aligned to a mask but does not comfortably sit as one (at least not on my head). I feel a simpler profile “tube” would be more useful as a neck gaiter.
Fishing on the Oregon is chilly in the winter. This wool gaiter is perfect. Hat, headband, low or high gaiter. It does it all.
