Not all balaclavas are the same…While they all typically perform the basic function of covering your head and neck, particularly while using an ever-more-popular topquilt, the question to really ask is: Will it keep you warm and comfortable?
When we designed the new Outdoor Vitals LoftTek™ Hybrid Balaclava, we wanted to fix or eliminate common questions and concerns with current puffy balaclavas. For starters, down wetting out & failing because the user was breathing into it all night was an issue. Cinch cord toggles digging into the back of your head was another! The problem was that without that back cinch cord, the balaclava wouldn't turn with your head and you'd end up in the claustrophobic situation of having your face in the back of your balaclava by the end of the night!
Those problems are completely solved with our new design! Rather than down insulation, we've used LoftTek™ Hybrid insulation that can get soaking wet and still not collapse or fail! You can have complete confidence of a warm balaclava all night, no matter what! Second, instead of a rear cinch cord, we've used a fitted elastic band to get a comfortable fit & ensure that as you turn your head, the balaclava moves with you. While laying on your back, you won't have to worry at all about uncomfortable cinch cord toggles digging into your head!
Make sure you stay warm and comfortable every time with this new LoftTek™ Hybrid Balaclava design! It's absolutely necessary while using a topquilt, and incredibly useful, warm, & comfortable even for cold camping in a traditional sleeping bag! Keep scrolling to learn more details.

This a must have for hammock sleepers. I tested it in 22 degree weather, and I was toasty warm all night. I switched to my tent the next night, and kept it on, recommended for both hammocks and tents. I also wore it as a hat the whole time I was out. Extremely versatile, and a huge value!
Very good quality and fast service. Thanks
I switched from bags to quilts last year and when I did I thought I'd just use a hat as my dome cover when I'm sleeping in the cold weather and that worked sort of. My head always got itchy, my hair stuff and matted, and my face was always cold which would even wake me up sometimes. Enter the OV Balaclava! I used the new head piece this past weekend on a overnight for a couple days where the overnight temps were in the upper 30s. I noticed the difference night one for sure. Think of it as a hood from a mummy bag but on a quilt. It's soft and comfortable to wear, you barely know it's on there. It's adjustable so like for me I left it mostly open to start the night but cinched it up mid night to keep that warmth in. When I woke up my hair was still messy but not matted and unruly. Second night was same. I love this thing. Not something you'd generally think you need but I'll tell you what. It beats a hat any day!
3 nights in Latir Wilderness in Northern New Mexico. High winds and low temps. Head and ears toasty -- thanks, OV!
When I first tried the balaclava on, my head was immediately warm, and I when I took it out into the cold, it kept my face warm even with the condensation from my breathing! Thank you, OV, for yet again, another great product!
