Much of North America is home to Grizzly Bears and Black Bears.  We all have a responsibility to protect these incredible creatures and the wild spaces where they live. This starts with properly storing your food so that bears can live naturally and your trip stays safe and fun!

In addition to the many parks, forests, and trails that mandate the use of bear resistant food storage, we recommend carrying your BearVault in all places inhabited by bears.

Yet to trail test but…

I live in a place with a lot of black bears, ours aren’t typically aggressive but they are pesky! And love to steal your stuff if they all can, especially on the more popular trails in the area where they’re used to getting good scores from new backpackers, I haven’t used mine yet, but I have friends and also my father-in-law who has these and it’s the best weight to protection ratio you’re going to get for a bar canister, at least that I found. The only thing is they’re a pain in the butt to open, even if you’re a human. I guess that sort of the point but I think I’ll get one of those bar keys to go along with it at some point. I got two sizes because I’m honestly not positive which is going to be the best for an upcoming trip I’m taking but I would like to have two sizes anyway so I went ahead and took advantage of a sale, we’re also going to see which one fits my wife’s Stuff the best and invest in that size for her too.

Solid piece of equipment

I haven't got to use this on a trip yet but it feels very solid and nice that it can double as a stool because of that. I haven't found it difficult to open as some reviews mention. I might feel different if I use it somewhere really cold but so far it is very easy and simple to get it open and closed. I wish I could take a half star off the review just for how heavy it is because it definitely isn't light. Looking forward to using it and it is big enough that I should be able to carry enough food for me and a kiddo or two for a weekend.
