Why Outdoor Vitals?
We Make Gear Different: Performance First
The first question asked to gear designers when a new project is started is, “What is your target price point?” This question is critical because when you're designing gear for a store shelf, you have to stay at the price point the store expects it to be. By the time you also pay distributors and the retail store marks up their profit, even the smallest increases in production costs are amplified.
At Outdoor Vitals we reject all of this so that we can make the best possible product without limitations. Due to our business model, there isn’t a fabric, technology, quality control process or any other option that is off the table for us to utilize.
So we use that to focus on Performance-First designs. Performance can mean a lot of things. But for us, it means that your gear flat-out works in the field while staying as lightweight as possible. We know this because our team hikes thousands of miles and spends weeks sleeping in tents each year. We design and test…design and test again…and again…because that’s what award-winning products require.
Another critical part of gear design is who we partner with. Over a decade of business we have developed relationships with industry leading fabric mills, trim providers, and sewing facilities. These partnerships allow us to design with the best materials and processes available.
Thanks to the direct-to-consumer model we were founded with, we can design whatever tool we need for the job without restrictions on price, timelines, or even investors pushing for profits.
Performance First Ultralight Gear
Is it always the MOST lightweight? Maybe, maybe not. But does it perform the best in the scenarios it was designed for? We think so!
Inspiring Confidence Through Experience
We've made it a point to create & share content that inspires, educates, & enables our customers to get outside more comfortably & confidently.
Direct Customer Connection
We deliver gear directly to you - no middleman. On the flip-side, you don't have to bring your questions to a sales rep in a retail store. Talk directly with the team that created your gear.
Why Direct To Consumer?
Directly To You
Selling direct to the consumer means that we don’t utilize wholesalers, distributors, or retail stores to sell our products to our end users. By committing to this way of doing business, it lowers the price customers can buy the products for by an average of 50%! So as long as customers are comfortable and ok with us shipping the products to your door rather than going down to REI to pick them up, it has the potential to save them a lot of money.
However, OV wasn’t founded to just save money for its customers. We wanted to build better products. So we use some of the differences in savings of selling directly to buy better fabrics, apply better treatments, use better trims, and utilize improved quality control processes. What this means for our customers is they are getting a better quality product with better materials, while still paying less than they would for the product at the local retail shop.
