Vario - named from the root of the word 'variability', this jacket can be used in many diverse applications.
The Vario Jacket has everything you know & love in the Ventus Active Hoodie, but with pockets, a full zipper & more insulation.
The Vario Jacket brings a new meaning to "ultralight backpacking". No longer do you have to sacrifice warmth to get a lower pack weight!
Utilizing innovative 3DeFX Insulation we were able to create an ultralight jacket while retaining high warmth value and body-mapped breathability! 100% of our materials are sourced & created by Toray. We know where everything came from on a molecular level! That means there are no impurities in the recycled insulation fibers. Every part of it is planned & recycled purposefully.
This 50% recycled 3DeFX insulation has 0% performance & durability degradation! These recycled fibers will last just as long, stay just as lofty, and keep you just as warm! Sustainability at its finest!
Both the 3DeFX insulation and durable Ripstop Nylon fabric of the hoodie stretch with you as you move. This causes tiny coils (much like trampoline springs) to expand- allowing more heat to escape and the hoodie to breathe with you when you need it. When the jacket fabric and insulation aren't being stretched with your motion, these coils contract and create an incredible amount of loft and warmth!
An unobtrusive insulated hood and lightweight coating on the exterior fabric give the Vario Jacket the ability to also act as a great wind breaker with amazing temperature control!
You can compress this jacket almost down to the size of a grapefruit, so between the ultralight weight and amazing packability, you'll have no problem taking this with you on any adventure. You'll never be left high and dry without a warm layer again!
Finally, the Vario Jacket is actually soft & comfortable. Many ultralight fabrics feel sticky or clammy to the touch. But the soft interior of the Vario will make you WANT to put it on.
Start experiencing the outdoors more light and comfortable now with the newest game-changing insulated jacket available! No more compromising, stay warm anywhere and on any type of adventure!

Your Ventus Active Hoodie is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.
Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:
- Never wash your jacket in a washing machine that has an agitator.
- If you cannot follow either of these prior instructions you should hand wash your jacket using the detergent and drying process described below.
The Wash & Dry Process
- Use a mild detergent like Dreft (for babies) or Nikwax (for technical gear).
- Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
- Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse.
- Hang dry until the jacket is completely dry.
- Then loft and redistribute your insulation in the dryer by running it for 10 minutes on low or no heat with 3 dryer balls.

Four types of spiral-shaped fibers are intertwined to give 3DeFX insulation more loft and stretchability than traditional microfiber synthetic insulations. This insulation stretches with you as you move, allowing heat to escape & keeping you at the perfect temperature!
Basically what this means is that you get a warmer insulation that weighs less & helps regulate temperature.
Utilizing 50% recycled 3DeFX+ Insulation we created a jacket that packs smaller, weighs less, and keeps you incredibly warm! Normally, the performance & durability of recycled material is lower than non-recycled materials (not as lofty, not as durable, heavier from impurities, etc.).
But that’s not the case with the Vario Jacket!
100% of our materials are sourced & created by Toray. We know where everything came from on a molecular level! That means there are no impurities in the recycled insulation fibers. Every part of it is planned & recycled purposefully.
The result is that the 50% recycled 3DeFX insulation has 0% performance & durability degradation after extensive testing (compared to normal 3DeFX.) It will last just as long. It’s just as lofty & warm!
Designing The Vario
Perfect fit. Long enough in arms and body, which isn't always the case for my clothing purchases! Yay!
I really appreciate how it sheds wind and it was really surprising how warm the jacket was for the weight
I concur with all of the other rave reviews about this jacket's weight and fabric. It has excellent warmth to weight ratio and is stretchy enough to accommodate a wide variety of activities. I will say that I haven't used it enough yet to comment on the durability. so that remains to be seen. However, I appreciate that it has all the tech features for outdoor activities while still being attractive enough to wear around town. Two additional features would have given this jacket a five star rating, and they deal with convenience. First, I don't know why the decision was made not to include an internal stash pocket for this jacket, as so many other OV jackets have them. The ability to compress jackets into an internal pocket is a helpful feature for packing as well as using the jacket for a pillow. Secondly, and this is a feature I HIGHLY suggest to OV designers for all jackets: internal drop pockets. The convenience to added weight value is almost infinite, since you're practically dividing by zero. I find internal drop pockets so valuable on backcountry adventures, as they create a handy space to warm gloves or snacks and keep my phone battery from freezing during cold weather excursions. All that's required is a little extra fabric and stitching on the inside front panels. In summary, I'm very happy with the Vario, but just a few small additions would make it perfect.
So I thought I would move away from the traditional puffy jacket and give the Vario a try. As we start our journey to more ultra lite backpacking, at 9 oz it invited me to give it a try. From the moment it arrived I was happy with the fit and construction of the jacket. It is very light and comfortable. Now I will admit, I haven't used it out on the trail but it's been my go to for my early morning walks with my puppy! Today it was at below freezing here in the state of Washington and I wore the jacket along with a regular shirt under the jacket. I was warm and comfortable through the whole walk. The Vario definitely gets my vote of confidence!
Yes, she’s thoroughly impressed and I’m grateful that your vision made that possible. Keep the fabric coming!
