Product Care

Your Summit Down Sleeping Bag is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.

Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:

Before Washing

  • Always wash your down product completely alone to prevent down migration.
  • Never wash your down product in a washing machine that has an agitator.
  • If you cannot follow either of these prior instructions you should hand wash your sleeping bag using the detergent and drying process described below.

The Wash & Dry Process

  1. Use a mild detergent like Dreft (for babies) or Nikwax (for technical gear).
  2. Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
  3. Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse.
  4. Hang dry until the sleeping bag is completely dry.
  5. Then loft and redistribute your down insulation in the dryer by running it for 10 minutes on low or no heat with 3 dryer balls.

Long Term Storage

  • Do not store down product compressed long term. Long term compression weakens the insulation's ability to loft and therefore insulate.
  • We recommend hanging it in your closet or putting it in a pillow case for storage between uses.

HyperDry™ Down

What is HyperDry™ Down insulation?

It's high-performing down that has been DWR treated on a down level for increased water resistance.

If down gets wet, it collapses (loses its loft) & no longer insulates. That's why we use HyperDry™ Down in the Summit Sleeping Bags!

This means you get all the weight & compression benefits of down (that's still what it is) PLUS you get a bit more protection from moisture than standard untreated down.

Differential Cut

What is a differential cut?

It means that the inside fabric is cut smaller than the outside fabric.

When you are inside a sleeping bag, you tend to move around a bit & press up against the inner fabric. A differential cut ensures that you don't compress the insulation inside the sleeping bag, even if your knee, elbow, etc. presses right up against the inner fabric!

This means you get a warmer sleeping bag without cold spots!

Designing the Summit

Anatomical Shape

Ever had cold feet? Our footbox is shaped to match the natural splay of your feet when you're lying down. This also optimizes warmth without extra space to heat up, & allows you to lay comfortably in a natural position.

Differential Cut

The inside fabric is cut smaller than the outside fabric.

A differential cut ensures that you don't compress the insulation inside the sleeping bag, even if your knee, elbow, etc. presses right up against the inner fabric!

HyperDry™ Down

HyperDry Down from Allied Feather is 800 fill power down that was been DWR treated on a down level for increased water resistance.

Pillow Style Draft Collar

No more cinch cords around your throat. These pillow baffles can be stuffed anywhere you want to keep you cozy & warm.

Center Zip

This unique zipper placement not only makes it easy to get in & out of the sleeping bag, but also allows you to easily vent by using the secondary zipper slider.

More Reliable Warmth On Trail

Summit Sleeping Bag- Down shifts gets cold

I took out my Summit down 30 degree bag for the first time and I was cold. The reason being is that the down shifts and you get cold spots with no insulation. This happened several times while camping and I tried moving the down around so that I could be warmer. OV- you need to an R and D team to look at your bags because they don't perform. Please think twice about getting a sleeping bag as they are missing some standard features.

It’s ok

I’m 5 foot 10 and 180 pounds and with my head in the hood I could barely zip up the zipper. I don’t have that broad of shoulders so that bag was tight. I also think the rating for the temperature might’ve been a bit off. Also, the drawstring cord hangs in your face all night when you got it, fully zipped up and needs to be put somewhere else or reconfigured, anyhow maybe widen that a hair put the drawstring somewhere else

Horrible Product and Company. Terrible customer service.

First time buyer of an Outdoor Vitals (OV) product. This bag arrived defective with down filling pouring out of it from a busted 3 inch area of seam. Long story short, OV has been incredibly slow to respond and still hasn't responded to Guidefitters (purchased through them on pro account) attempts or mine to resolve this. Guidefitter themselves have been outstanding and paid up front themselves to get this returned and "exchanged." Unfortunately too much time had lapsed and I needed this in time for a backpacking trip. Outdoor Vitals website sure preaches great products, customer service and expedient resolve for service, but they sure didn't measure up to that with my experience. The next step may be filing a transaction dispute with my bank. Otherwise, Guidefitter themselves have been top notch customer service trying to get this figured out. I would not recommend Outdoor Vitals to anyone.

Worth it!

Undoubtedly the most comfiest sleeping bag I have ever owned. Though I bought it for all year round, it's easy to sleep on it during the summer. I am looking forward to sleep in it when it is cold.
