Tern Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie

New Poly Blend fabric will dry faster & retain shape even better than original nylon fabric blend

The Tern Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie is engineered for optimal moisture-wicking, comfort, sun protection, and quick-drying performance while managing odor & bacteria buildup.

  • Moisture Management: Experience excellent moisture-wicking capabilities, allowing the merino wool blend to effectively draw moisture away from your body while retaining its shape exceptionally well. Ideal for both hot weather and as a base layer in cold temperatures.
  • Comfortable Fit: The athletic fit of the Tern ensures comfort without being tight or restrictive. This design enhances the merino wool's moisture-wicking properties. With no hardware, simplicity reigns, contributing to decreased weight for high activity.
  • Odor and Bacteria Resistance: Benefit from the natural odor-resistant properties of merino wool, making the Tern perfect for travel, running, hiking, and everyday use. The ultralight weight adds to its versatility.
  • Better Shape Retention: the new Poly blend Tern fabric holds its shape exceptionally well for merino wool, even when wet.  It will stretch sufficiently without “bagging out” & becoming shapeless.
  • Faster Dry Times: the Tern dries faster than typical merino wool blends.  This gives you better performance in high-output activities & will help you regulate your temperature better.

The natural odor resistant & ultralight properties of merino wool make the shirt perfect for travel, running, hiking, and everyday use.

The fit should be athletic, but not tight or restrictive- this allows the merino wool blend to more effectively wick moisture from your body.  There is no hardware, adding to the simplicity and decreasing weight.  The Tern is a high performance piece for high activity.

Whether shielding yourself from the sun on warm days or using it as a base layer for colder temperatures, the Tern Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie offers unmatched performance. Elevate your outdoor experiences with a shirt that adapts to your lifestyle.

Nuyarn® Technology

Outdoor vitals uses Nuyarn® Technology in all of our merino wool fabrics & apparel. Nuyarn is a spinning technology that releases the natural performance characteristics of wool fiber that are otherwise twisted out by traditional wool spinning methods.

Essentially the result is performance products made from natural fibers that can outperform synthetics.

Nuyarn® can make wook that performs as closely as possible to the way it does in nature, to rival or exceed the performance of synthetic alternatives.

Types of Spinning

Ring Spun & Traditional Core Spun techniques compress the natural air pockets in the fiber, create loops, & restrict the natural movement of the fibers -essentially creating a rope-like structure that can be itchy next to skin.

Nuyarn® does not twist the fibers. Instead it drafts merino fibers along a high performance filament, resulting in 2 ply yarns with much more volume & aeration.  (This 2 ply yarn structure is 35% finer than yarns spun on a conventional ring frame. Combined with the Nuyarn® thermal advantage, this offers the capacity to engineer much lighter, high performance fabrics as a result.)

Benefit Summary

The Nuyarn® method of twist-free spinning allows us to create products that outperform traditional merino wool & synthetics, and offer a natural enhancer to athletic performance.

  • 5x Faster Drying
  • 85% More Elasticity
  • 120% More Seam Strength
  • 53% More Air Resistant
  • 30% Less Resources Used
  • 8.8x More Durable
  • 35% More Thermal Retention
  • 50% More Burst Strength
  • 25% Less Energy Used

Lighter Weight, Higher Performance

Compared to traditional merino wool, Nuyarn® wool is:

  • 5x Faster Drying
  • 85% More Elastic
  • 8x More Durable
  • Uses 30% Less Resources

"Twist-Free" Spinning

Made with Nuyarn® Spinning Tehcnology

Amazing Hoodie

I recently wore this as a sunshirt on a 2 hour long gravel bike ride in sunny and humid weather with temps around 80-85 degrees. I wanted to see how well it wicked sweat and kept me cool, and I was very pleased. Solid item, and I am very happy with it.

This is what I've been searching for!!! 6'3" 240lb XL

Two days on my bicycle with over 12 hours of ride time in 80+ degree weather and this thing kept me cool and somehow didn't stink at all! I'm ordering more! It's worth the price easily! This is the outdoor light weight merino that you all are searching for!!!

Best lightweight and breathable hoodie

I basically tried all the sunhoodies from Amazon to premium brands, and this one plue the Wool and Prince Tencel Merino are the only two I ended up really using

Outdoor Vitals Nuyarn hoodie is exceptionally good for 90+ degree 5 mile + walks

The breathability is unmatched and doesn’t feel plasticky on your skin like polyester of most other hoodie brands

It does pill up over time and is somewhat less durable because of how thin it is but the heat wicking is worth it

Holds well in the smell department too, I didn’t notice any scent until day 5 of consecutive 100 degree 5 mile walks

The Wool and Prince tencel hoodie is more suitable for more formal social events, so between the 2 I am all set

Highly recommend this outdoor vitals sun hoodie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tern ultralight hoodie

Love hiking in this hoodie no matter the weather. I have worn this in warmer an cooler weather. It's breathable, lightweight , so comfortable!! No sticky sweat to the body. The hood is great for hot sun, or keeping the wind at bay. I have two of these so when one is in the wash, i have a back-up. Highly recommend !!

HORRIBLE COMPANY AND PRODUCTS

I ordered the Outdoor Vitals Tern Ultralight Merino Wool Hoodie for my Colorado Trail trip this month. After I pulled it out of the box, I removed the neck tag and tried it on. I immediately noticed a thumb size hole in the center of the chest, so I contacted Guidefitter about a replacement. Guidefitter staff were very helpful but Outdoor Vitals informed them not to replace or refund the poor quality product because the neck tag was removed. I contacted Outdoor Vitals about them sending me a shirt with a hole in it. They replyed stating since I removed the tag they wouldn't warranty the product. If I wanted to pay and mail it to them I can have it repaired for a possible $20 charge. I paid full price, I should receive the entire shirt. Tayson Whittaker and Outdoor Vitals only want your money!

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and frustrations. Your concerns are completely valid. Unfortunately, in the past we have had issues of products use and abuse of our returns policy due to the leniency of corporations like Amazon. We cannot determine if the product was an out of box issue without tags and packaging attached, so it likely would not qualify for replacement. It is always recommended to try on for fit and to do a basic visual inspection of the item received before removing and disposing of tags and packaging.

While under the circumstances it may not qualify for replacement, we are always determined to make sure your gear can perform well for you on trail. If you would still like to have your Tern inspected for possible solutions, I have emailed you return instructions.
