Shadowlight Ultralight Backpack

Need a size S or XS hip belt? CLICK HERE for an alternative option.

The ShadowLight™ Ultralight backpack brings a new meaning to "ultralight backpacking". No longer do you have to sacrifice everything to get below a 2 lb pack weight!

Shadowlight- named for its ultralight weight and how well it rides on your back. Due to its geometry and weight, it feels like an extension of your body.

  • Ultralight and Ultra Comfortable: Coming in at under 2 lbs (including a durable 24 in. frame & wide hip belt,) it comfortably carries up to 35+ lbs. The shoulder straps, hip belt, & removable back panel were all crafted to fit anatomically, making the Shadowlight Backpack feel more like an extension of your body.
  • Ultralight With Extra Organization and Access: The Shadowlight Backpack is equipped with side pockets, large hip belt pockets, stretch-mesh pockets, & a full length main panel entry zipper to keep you organized on the trail while keeping your pack weight under 2 lbs. The adjustable roll-top gives you additional access & customizable space for packing.
  • High Strength Ultralight Fabric: We used our own special Spectra / Robic Ripstop fabric, which gives you the benefits of both a high tenacity nylon & UHMWPE fibers! Enjoy the strength and durability of a much heavier fabric, but now in an ultralight package.

Embrace a better kind of ultralight exploration that doesn't sacrifice comfort & organization with the Shadowlight Backpack.

Just Right!

I really like the backpack. It is light weight and durable. It was just right for a 5 day back country trip at Philmont Scout Ranch, and caring some crew gear. With the sizing options, I was able to fit the pack almost perfectly to my body, thus allowing for better weight distribution. Best backpack so far.

This pack is awesome. Love the pockets for organization. It’s also very comfortable. I don’t normally carry more than 25 lbs but my first time out with this pack I was at 29 lbs and it was more comfortable than any pack I’ve ever used. The front zipper was super convenient to shove things in as the day warmed up.

My First Ultralight Backpack After 30 Years of Backpacking

As someone who has been backpacking for over 30 years, the Outdoor Vitals Shadowlight Ultralight Backpack is my first venture into the ultralight category, and I have to say, I’m really enjoying it. With pack weights of 25 lbs or less, the Shadowlight wears incredibly comfortably. I did push it to around 30 lbs once, and while it wasn't as supportive at that weight, it’s not a dealbreaker for me—I rarely pack that heavy anymore and have other packs for those occasions.

One feature I haven’t used much is the zipper, mainly because I’m in the habit of emptying my bag once I set up camp, or I pack essentials near the top for easy access. However, I do appreciate the deep pockets on the back and the smaller side pockets, which are perfect for stashing gear. The cinch strings are something I’m still getting used to, but they do a good job of keeping everything secure.

Overall, the Shadowlight has been a great addition to my gear lineup, and I’m looking forward to many more adventures with it!
