Shadowlight- named for its ultra lightweight and how well it rides on your back. Due to its geometry and weight, it feels like you’re carrying a shadow on your back rather than a heavy backpack.
The ShadowLight™ Ultralight backpack brings a new meaning to "ultralight backpacking". No longer do you have to sacrifice everything to get below a 2 lb pack weight! No more carrying a tube or duffle bag on your back just to shave some weight.
Utilizing our own special Spectra / Robic ripstop fabric we were able to cut incredible weights while retaining top of industry durability and strength! From there we added a 24 inch frame to transfer the load from your shoulders to your hips for ultimate comfort when your load creeps up in weight whether it be a long water carry, winter trips, or helping others split a load!
The modular design allows you to remove the frame and remove your hip belt to fit the weight and goals of your trip. Plus you can easily remove the back panel to utilize as a sit pad!
Perhaps the most important part of the pack is the organization and access we have been able to provide while remaining under 2lbs! Full-length zipper gives you access to the entirety of your pack without unloading everything! 2 Large mesh pockets capable of fitting a 2 person tent in one side gives you a great flex space or area to store wet gear! Outside water bottle pockets can hold up to 2.5 Liters of water in each pocket, while higher organization pockets keep critical items separate and close at hand. Large hip belts are great for storing snacks, repellants, flashlights, sunscreens and more!
The adjustable roll-top gives you the ability to expand or contract the size of the pack to give you amazing customization along with the organization features!

This is my long term review after using the pack for my Appalachian Trail thruhike this year. Overall, I found this pack comfortable but have some design and small durability issues.
The pack was in the sweet spot of 2 lb weight but still has a frame, adjustable straps, and padded hip belt. I used 60 L version which was perfect for someone who pays attention to weight but is not ultra light. My base was around 18 lbs. I agree that above 30 lbs, such as a long food carry, the pack became markedly less comfortable, and I could feel it sagging against the hip belt.
It is not remotely waterproof, but with a trash compactor bag liner I did just fine in a wet East Coast season. The bag liner meant that the front zipper was largely useless, but I sometimes used it as a quick access pocket, like a traditional pack brain.
Hip pockets were large enough for my phone and full tube of sunscreen on one side, and hand sanitizer plus 3 Cliff bars on the other side. I easily could reach the water bottle pockets while wearing the pack, but the top side pockets are not accessible while wearing.
The top side pockets need drainage holes! The water bottle pockets have them. The pockets filled with water during a storm, and I had to remember to wipe them out. Hip pockets could use some drainage, too, but they only collected water during heavy extended rain. Standing water in the hip pocket did wet out my phone once - reminder to use an extra zip bag for that.
The fabric held up well to snags on rocks and tree branches, and small holes that eventually developed did not continue to fray or grow.
After about 2 months, the top carry handle came unsewed, but my repair with heavy upholstery thread held for several months of further use. I switched hip belts (flexibility is a plus), but even the small I wished could go a bit smaller. You can use extra foam, such as a sit pad or panel of a larger mat, at your low back to bulk out; I didn't try this.
After about 2 months, the fabric on the replacement belt fell apart on both sides. This was mostly cosmetic but was annoying. Again, my field repair held for several hundred additional miles.
Other OV pack users always complimented each other on trail. I heard about the frame "popping out" of place but never had this issue.
I love the backpack, sits super comfy on the hips, first time using it. Durability, time will tell .
I received the pack on Thursday. Friday morning I packed it and went to Iceland for a 4 day 50 mile hike. Super comfortable! I love the midline zipper. Made everything easy to get to!!
I’m 5’9” 180 lbs. female. I ordered the small frame with a large belt and it fits great. My length measured as 16 at REI
I bought this backpack a few years ago. There was a small issue with it and Outdoor Vitals stood behind the promise of great service. This is why I live to buy my gear from this great store! Thanks also to a tremendous staff!
