The Altitude was built for those that push further, climb higher, & don’t take no for an answer. Its near weightlessness & breathability combined with a thoughtful design will keep you comfortable whether you’re trail running, hiking, or in almost any other outdoor setting.
The name "Altitude" comes from the need to protect ourselves from some nasty sunburns, especially at high elevations. One of the significant tests we put the Altitude Sun Hoodie through was when we backpacked the Uinta Highline Trail, a trail the stretches over 100 miles with 80% of those miles above 10,000 ft! It performed exceptionally well, & we came to rely on the Altitude for adventures afterwards!
One thing you’ll notice right away is how well the Altitude manages moisture for you. The performance synthetic fabric wicks moisture from your skin & dries incredibly quickly!
This means the Altitude can also be used year round as a base layer! The fit should be athletic, but not tight or restrictive- this allows the synthetic blend to more effectively manage & wick away moisture.
The ultralight fabric will shield you from the sun without causing you to overheat so you can keep adventuring day-in & day-out without any sensitive skin. The high collar will give you max coverage, even when your hood is down!
The Altitude Hoodie is perfect for high activity. No hardware. No frills. Just pure performance.

I got this in the 100 mi challenge goodie box and have been wearing quite a bit since, first impressions are that it’s very comfortable and light, is been a little chilly here for the past couple days and even though it’s thin and breathable it still offers some good wind protection.
This garment is excellent for it's intended purpose. I use it exclusively for summer hiking (great sun/bug protection), and as a base layer in the shoulder season. Works like a charm for sun/bug protection and weighs next to nothing.
Suggestion: Thumb loops would be very helpful for layering or when sun-gloves are in use.
It’s very unique in that the material does act like a base layer and wick moisture while protecting you from the sun. The cut and sizing is very good.
A few things I would change. The hood needs to cover your cheeks a little more. Thumb holes would be great (I might have them added) would pay another $10 for this. The blue color isn’t exactly as expected. I was hoping for a steel blue but it’s got a slight powder blue look.
Size wise I’m 6’2” 185 and the large fits great. Close enough for wicking but not a restrictive compression fit.
Overall an excellent value in it’s class!
I found out about this hoodie with less than a week before my 11 day trip to hike in the Sierras. Worried that I may not receive it in time I reached out to OV customer support about my predicament. They made sure to ship it out that same afternoon to make sure I got it before my trip. It came in with a few days to spare before I left.
As a really pale dude sun protection is crucial for me not to burn. This hoodie kept me cool, comfortable, and well protected on my 11 day adventure without the need to slather my whole upper body in sunscreen. I didn't see a single cloud during my entire trip and I didn't even get the slightest hint of a burn even up past 14,000 feet on Mt Whitney.
I didn't get to properly wash it for 11 days and it didn't hang onto any nasty smells. I only rinsed it off in a steam a couple times during my trip and it completely dried within 10 minutes after ringing it out.
I could not be more impressed!
Thank you for making some seriously high end gear at a price that's actually attainable to the average person.
I can't wait to try out more gear from OV. You've gained a lifelong customer!
The hoodie really does meet the light weight breathable requirements. I started out on a cool morning with just the hoodie no undershirt. It was 49° and I stayed remarkable comfortable.
One thing I did notice is that I got 3 snags on it the first day. I was not in thick bushwhacking area. I would not use this in a thick brush area.
Over-all I really did enjoy the fit and comfort of the hoodie.
