8 nights sleeping in the full system on 5 overnight trips in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. 3 of these nights during downpours. Hammock: comfortable and strong. Bug net: lightweight, easy and effective.Tarp: kept me dry and secure. Braided dyneema line: light and amazing. But no option for anything bigger than a 6-foot strap? On 1 of my 8 nights here in tree central, there were no suitable tree options less than 2 feet in diameter. Do the math: 2 x 3.14 > 6. I had to jury-rig something with cord. And another time when the tree was just a foot in diameter, the strap broke. Maybe it was the fact that it is only single stitched and I over-stressed by using it with cord on the big tree. May I did a bad wrap job. Anyway. I love the system. But that simple little strap is the Achilles heel. In my search for a replacement I ended up with something four times as heavy. I hate it but you don't offer a lighter weight replacement strap of suitable length.
Beef up all the straps. And offer a 10-footer for us folks who wander the eastern woodlands. Please.
This is an extremely lightweight and compact suspension system. I've been using ENO Atlas straps forever, but got a set of these with my Outdoor Vitals hammock and I'm going to buy another set so I don't have to switch this between my ultralight backpacking hammock and my old ENO Doublenest I use when car camping. The traditional hammock straps like the Atlas straps weigh twice as much as the hammock, or more, and take as big a bag to pack them in as the hammock uses. These can stay attached to the hammock and easily fit in the bag attached to the hammock along with the hammock itself, and you barely notice they are there. It is unbelievable how thin and lightweight the rope is, but it is still very strong..
The tree strap broke on me
I have not used them yet, but its a weight saver. I cant wait to use it.
There are so many different systems out there but believe that their suspension system is price just right for what it is. If you are just starting out it’s possible that tree straps may be a better fit but adds weight. For any other level of experience this is so flexible for micro adjustments and holds strong. It is also a fraction of the weight and pack size compared to tree straps. Other comparable systems were easily above $30 and even into $40 which get a little more involved.
Thank you outdoor vitals for the time you put into your equipment to adhere to the KISS method.
Cheers..
